Doc & Lena Selyanina - Vienna Blue

Vienna Blue is the seventh album from the Finnish producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina. Where their earlier production has been predominantly ambient in nature, these are more intense songs building strongly on Lena's sophisticated piano compositions and her emotionally touching, expressive pianism. Stylewise the album moves in the genres of avantgarde, neoclassical, jazz and blues.

The album got its original inspiration from Franz Schubert and his music, Schubert being Lena's favourite classical composer. Some tracks like Wanderer, Doppelgänger and Der Leiermann contain recognizable musical and thematic references to Schubert's works; for the rest of the tracks, the association is more indirect. Get ready for a great adventure into strangely beautiful and highly imaginative music!

KraftiM - FraxurY

FraxurY is KraftiM's third full album release on Musictrade. The entire album is built on wave material from the Swedish electronic musician and sound engineer Frags. The structural skeleton for the album comes from the holy Dutch hexagram of Earth, Man, Fire, Water, Air and Beer, and the scandinavian origin of the waves gave the impulse for the short track titles.

Musically Fraxury is a story of how the mentioned six elements influence our daily perception. In Amli the nervous states of mind are explored and put into a position. Tulo includes KraftiM's own synthesizer based percussion bringing in more structure. Isev's processed guitar makes it a dense rock trip where fire and ice meet and stir up the a slumbering brain. Seim includes occasional bass lines provided by Alfred who has contributed also to some earlier KraftiM works. There's a sense of heaven crying desperately in a search for inner rest. Ilut includes material from KraftiM's rural field recordings. Aam is a track liberated from all trivial down to earth harassment, giving us a change to explore the serenity of the leftovers of our broadened mind again.

VA - Dame Citrus

This is a compilation of finest Musictrade ambient from seven different artists, two of whom - Likantropika and TheOmen - make their debute on the label on this album.

Frags's stylish Payday builds on a garage field recording from Australia (by Electroteque), creating a dark and mesmerizing atmosphere. Likantropika is a dedicated ambient artist from Andorra and his Musictrade debute Wish is a smooth piece of emotionally touching keyboard ambient. Doc & Lena Selyanina's Caspar's Walk builds on a field recording capturing an outdoor walk and Lena's beautiful serene piano improvisations. Fünf Euro by Unknown Forces utilizes a field recording from Germany with an attractive repetitive synth background. KraftiM's Pa2m is a darkly mysterious track echoing chants from a Himalayan monastery, with a touch of extra strangeness from sampled children's laughter. TheOmen comes from Holland and his Cellophonica was born out of his love for the cello, expressed in the medium of his new love, ambient. Softspace's Letting Go At 881 is a graceful journey into inner landscapes, a gateway to an altered state of consciousness in the separate reality of sound.

Doc & Lena Selyanina - Cosmic Lullabies

Cosmic Lullabies is the sixth album from the Finnish ambient producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina, cosmic and meditative in its style and spirit. The opening track Bell Meditation is a pure meditation song based on huge bell sounds that resonate and vibrate for extended periods of time. Gradually rising ethereal echoes from sacred eastern choral tradition mix with the bells to form a calm and majestic cosmic setting, perfect for deep relaxation and meditation. The starting point for Neptune was Lena's beautiful impressionistic piano improvisation moving in G# Minor, "the bluest of musical modes", as Lena puts it. The piano then gets surrounded by a mysterious and meditative ambient soundworld. The entire 17 minute song can be interpreted as a long, symbolic probe-like dive through the blue, dreamlike gas layers of Neptune to ever deeper and darker realms, all the way down to the solid rock and metal core of the planet, and from there back to the starlight. The final track Andromeda is an ambient voyage into the majestic sphere of our neighbour galaxy.

Numerous friends of experimental music around the world have already found his talent and imagination and know what to expect: fantastically rich layered synth sounds and sonic imageries, surprising turns and twists in the songs, beauty and peace within strangest chaos.

KraftiM - Jamatrix

Jamatrix is the second full album release on Musictrade from the Dutch experimental electronica artist and sound architect KraftiM. The Jamatrix project was based on samples collected from five artists who all are releasing their music on the French Jamendo website. From each source track six samples were distilled and subjected to a thorough processing treatment, resulting in a matrix where each of the six KraftiM tracks uses material from five selected samples, one from each of the contributing artists.

Doc & Lena Selyanina - Nangilima

On their already fifth artistic co-creation the Finnish ambient producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina make a musical dive into the magical world of childhood's joys, fears and fantasies, inspired by the musical magic of Dmitri Shostakovich's preludes for piano. These songs are deep, rich ambient adventures vibrating with life and intricate aural details. The mood is mostly relaxing and meditative, but there are passages of darkness and moments of heightened drama as well - like in life itself.

Softspace - Room With A View

Welcome again to the imaginative and intriquing soundworld of Softspace, the experimental electronica artist from Gravesend, England.

This is the third full album from Softspace, and to give an idea of these audio journeys, imagine Paris in 1890's, looked through a reflection from a cracked mirror. Soft synths mixing into cyclic sound collages built from speech samples and other found sounds, with occasional rhythmic backgrounds, forming strange but beautiful impressionistic paintings of sound - each one an adventure on its own.

Doc & Lena Selyanina - Echoes from an Engulfed Cathedral

This is the fourth album from the Finnish ambient producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina. Like their second album 'An Island of Joy (In a Sea of Electronic Dreams)' this one also gets its musical inspiration from the works of the French composer Claude Debussy, and the themes of water are again strongly present in the cinematic and impressionistic soundworlds of these long ambient tracks. The original piano works that inspired these tracks are: Reflets dans l'eau (Reflections on Water), Mouvement (Movement in Stillness) and La Cathédrale Engloutie (Echoes from an Engulfed Cathedral). The idea of golden ratio is one of the special spices of this album, expressed in various harmonic and structural aspects of the music. The title track also reflects the ideas of sound architecture - in the long meditative section of the track the listener is taken inside a cathedral built from the sound, the deep gong pillars of the building laid out to follow Pythagorean numeric relations. Each track is an aural adventure on its own so put the stereo on, relax and let the journey begin.

VA - Ice Mustard

Musictrade opens year 2007 with this ambient compilation featuring a full house of Musictrade artists. As one would expect from Musictrade, there is a strong edge of experimental in this compilation, with elements of classical drone ambient combining to innovative use of field recordings and found sound material.

Electroteque's [Australia] Collective Consciousness is, as the title suggests, a musical insight into various voices and ideas present in today's collective consciousness, bound together in relaxed and stylish fashion charasteristic to this Sydney based artist. 'Birds' by Doc [Finland] and Frags [Sweden] is an ambient adventure into the strangely musical world of birds, based on Doc's countryside field recordings from summer 2006 and Frags's ambient groove. Frags also contributes another track 'Eleventh of Eleventh', a calm and soothing meditative piece to relax in. Softspace [England] takes us to his fantastic visual soundworlds with two tracks. Moon's Halo is reminiscent of floating ice crystals in the upper atmosphere while Hollow Lands brings to mind sci-fi like scenes of Earth in a distant future. KraftiM [Holland] also contributes two tracks: Awl I Can Say is an introspective dive into the depths of a single sung vocal, and Danik builds on KraftiM's daughter's humming combined to cool wave material provided by Electrotque. The album closes with cinematic and capturing 'Helsinki' by Unknown Forces [Scotland], based on his field recordings from a recent concert trip to Helsinki.

Softspace - Mahler's Cat

This is the second Musictrade album release from English electronica artist Softspace, following his Experiments at the Edge of Time [MT007, March 2006]. Where the debute album was built mostly on fairly light and uncomplicated synth material, this new album is definitely more experimental and ambivalent in nature. Synth-based material is still prominent but now it is intimately combined with field recording / foundsound material in the form of 'documentary soundscapes' and radiophonic style constructs. From these ingredients Softspace creates a new imaginary world full of curious aural details for Mahler's imaginary cat to step in and start to explore. To give a rough style/genre pointer, think of psychedelic Stockhausen with bits of Beatlesque leaking through the scenery.

Doc & Lena Selyanina - Noble, Sentimental & Ambient Waltzes

Friends of dark meditative ambient are in for another treat with this new co-creation from the Finnish ambient composer/producer Doc and the Russian keyboardist Lena Selyanina. This album was inspired by Maurice Ravel's waltzes for the piano, and Lena's soulful and introspective piano takes quite naturally a prominent role on this material. The fundamental soundworld and atmosphere is that of deep beatless ambient, with deliciously layered sounds and carefully crafted, slowly evolving tonal structures. Then there's the piano - often close and intimate, dwelling peacefully in subtle and rich ambient harmonies; at times wandering more playfully amidst complex tonal structures; and at other times acting as a source to more electronic and artifical sounds. There's a certain cinematic and dramatic feel already in the music itself, and this sense of drama is accented by subtle lines, sighs and sounds originating from some noble and ambient movies by Wim Wenders, Ingmar Bergman, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Andrei Tarkovsky.

Softspace - Experiments at the Edge of Time

This is the first full length release from Softspace on Musictrade, presenting his beautiful and rich synth soundscapes in the form of 11 new songs. "This album is really driven by the energy of sound", characterizes Softspace. "I've been fascinated by the ability of sound to affect our emotions, and with the synthesizer the sound palette available to the artist has really exploded. Each track on this album is unique in emotion, yet part of the larger soundscape. To put a rough label on it, the music is in the vein of experimental minimalist tradition, primarily based on keyboard improvisations subjected to further electronic production. Main keyboard instruments used were Access Virus, Novation and Roland V."

Doc & Lena Selyanina - An Island of Joy (In a Sea of Electronic Dreams)

Three deep ambient meditations on Claude Debussy's 'water music'. This album is the second co-operation from Doc and Lena Selyanina. Where their first album (MT002) focused on the idea of space - 'cosmic Bach' if you wish - this album is a deep musical dive into the element of water. The basic setting is that of dark meditative ambient - the dark majesty of 'deep waters' - out of which emerge the warmer, swifter and lighter layers of music conveying the mystery, intimacy and sensuality associated with the element of water.
